The EU project “Big Buyers working together” aims to deliver sound solutions for public procurement European wide. Among ten working groups (so called communities of practice), BME is in charge of running two working groups about procurement in healthcare, namely efficiency and sustainability.
Alongside other activities, there was a hackathon in Spring 2025 in Madrid where buyers could determine the most urgent needs in healthcare procurement.
Now the time has come to deliver reliable solutions for healthcare challenges.
At the Nordic Conference on Sustainable Healthcare in Malmö, Sweden, BME will bring together public buyers for healthcare and providers of solutions.
Are you providing or developing solutions for healthcare? Then the hackathon on 13th of November in Malmö gives you the unique opportunity to present your solutions to major stakeholders of the European public procurement! It also provides you with an unbiased of picture what healthcare procurers want.
For the following three challenges we are looking for solutions:

Nursing care plans Client: Vienna Health Care Group (Wiener Gesundheitsverbund, WIGEV), Austria currently created and maintained manually based on dispersed patient documentation (e.g., admission assessments, progress notes, physician orders, vitals, labs, risk scores). This process is time-consuming, varies in quality, and is difficult to keep up-todate during shift changes and high workload. Key pain points include:

Cleaning hospitals waste water Client: RESAH Réseau des Acheteurs Hospitaliers/ French network of hospital suppliers We seek for an innovative solution that allow the hospital / healthcare facility to do the on-site treatment of their wastewater in order to avoid the discharge of the potential pollutants ofthe hospital effluents. |

Medication errors Client: IRCCS Oncology Reference Center, Italy Medication errors are a leading cause of preventable harm in hospitals. These errors often occur during transitions of care — such as admission, transfer, or discharge—when medications are added, changed, or discontinued. Nurses and physicians must manually verify medication lists, dosages, and potential interactions, which is time-consuming and prone to human error. Currently, medication reconciliation is performed manually by:
