The war in Ukraine is present in everyone's mind. However, Europe has started the process of rebuilding

Ukraine. Besides investments, traditional procurement also plays an important role for the future and in the EU process. With a webinar on the 4th of July, German Association for Supply Chain Management, Purchasing and Logistics (BME), together with its partners, wants to make the procurement market more transparent, discuss opportunities and highlight the current challenges for buyers.

Together with German Eastern Business Association (OA) and European Business Association (EBA) from Ukraine, BME is taking a first step to take a closer look at the procurement market in Ukraine. A first joint webinar is about to take place, accompany this dialogue and offer interested buyers a competent insight into the procurement market.

"The aim is to enable an exchange between suppliers in Ukraine and German buyers," says Olaf Holzgrefe, Head of International Affairs at BME. Yet the webinar gives also an opportunity for direct dialogue with Ukrainian companies. "Ukrainian companies are flexible," says Stephan Kägebein, Regional Director Eastern Europe at Federation of German Eastern European Industries, "but they also need a compass to be able to adjust to the requirements in Germany and Europe."

The focus on Ukraine is not new. Germany and the EU have been supporting Ukraine in reconstruction. However, numerous companies from the automotive industry, the electronics industry and other sectors were and are still active in Ukraine. "The companies are producing," says Anna Derevyanko, CEO of the European Business Association, "and the companies want to become an integral part of the European value chain."

The webinar is now the first step taken by BME, Eastern Business Association and EBA to make both sides fit and highlight possible options. And BME's thoughts go even further. The 9th BME CEE Procurement and Supply Forum is planned for autumn in Kraków, Poland. On the 15th of November, buyers from Germany will meet with company representatives from Central and Eastern Europe for intensive B2B matchmaking. The common goal is to be able to present qualified companies from Ukraine there as well.
